This is a really comfy place without the stereotypical geegaws that most non-creative restaurants use. What I mean by that is (most) BBQ joints will have red and white gingham oilcloth tablecoths, with pigs on the wall, yadda-yadda... and (most) Chinese places have, well, you know what I mean. Dao is Bangkok hip, not what you'd expect. You're greeted by a friendly hostess who asks if you'd prefer a table or the bar (I chose the bar to watch a game) and then my treat started. I started with a Cucumber Splash made with Citron and Mandarin vodka over muddled cucumber, a splash of simple syrup and QS of club soda. It was served tall with cucumber garnish. I know this sounds like a foo-foo drink, but man, this would be perfect post-golf or by the pool. Kind of reminded me of a Pimms and soda, which I also love post-golf. Hey, I get tired of the same old Sapphire and tonic. This was a nice diversion to go along with some heated edamame with kosher salt. Their rolls seem to be popular, as well they should be. There must be 25 rolls on the menu. So what the hell do you do? What everyone does: View the ingredients, find a few you're in agreement with--and then guess! Owing to being in Burr Ridge, I creatively ordered The Burr Ridge Roll. Good Christ, Paul, what imagination you have! What adventure!! What a dork. But it appeared to contain things I liked so I sipped on the Cucumber Splash/Smash/Smooch/Whatever it's called and waited--and not long. The Burr Ridge Roll is Shrimp tempura, blue crab meat, avocado and massago. I know it wasn't given a name like some post-A-bomb J Arthur Rank giant ants that ate Santa Fe Film name. But you know what? I loved it. It had great flavor, crunch, sauce, and I know I'll order it again. They do have a Godzilla Roll and I may have to partake of that at some point or other just for the name. The rest of my first Dao experience was two pieces each of Yellow Tail sushi, salmon and Toro. It's not inexpensive, but not goofy, either. Two cocktails, the roll and sushi came to about $70 plus tip. I'm wanting to go back soon for some Thai, as well, which won't be hard as I can look out my living room window and see the place. Apparently they're on sked for opening a hibachi section by fall, too. I'm not a big fan of that, but it'll be good for their party business, I'm sure.

Have been there several times but just went this past weekend and noticed a considerable difference in the quality and taste of food. All the sushi rolls were delicious, perhaps some of the tastiest I've ever had. Even if it's not authentic, it definitely hits my white-washed sushi-craving spot. The Thai menu does not disappoint either. Seriously can't go wrong with any of the dishes available. Highly recommend.

Exceptional service. I ordered the Burr Ridge Rol and the Dragon on Fire. DOF wasn't too spicy and had good flavor. Definitely worth stopping by if you're the area.

Just went there for the first time. Service was pretty good. The Hibachi guy was cool. Interesting atmosphere- kind of like Asian-modern. Not your typical music playing but I thoguht that was enjoyable. Great wine selection and food selection. The food was really good and they aren't shy on the portion sizes- so that's nice. We had leftovers to take home. I definitely recommend it- we didn't try the sushi although it looked really good- we had scallops, chicken, shrimp, steak and pad thai in our group- all really good!

We were here a couple of weeks ago for dinner. We asked to be seated at the sushi bar (hostess was about to put us in a dark corner. And I don't mean romantic. I mean dark.) We started with the Black Pepper Tuna, I had seaweed salad, my husband had the Tom Yum soup. He raved about the soup; it was indeed delish. The tuna was the highlight of the appetizers. Fresh, not too tuna-y, nice and peppery. We finished with an Uni Shooter apiece. Pretty good. I've had better. For "dinner" (as if the previous pickings weren't enough), we had various sashimi, and the Fujiyama Roll. We loved the roll! it was creative and tasty. The sashimi is priced per piece. We tried tamago, salmon, tand toro. I had a glass of wine and small Saporro. My husband had a large Saporro. After tax and tip our bill was $118. Not bad. We did get a few pricey items. But you see, my heart will always be with Sushi House in La Grange. They too, are pricey. But the quality just can't be beat. We liked Dao alot, and we we're glad we tried it. And I didn't mean to save it for last, but the service was wonderful. Helpful and polite.

The food here is delicious! Great sushi and the shrimp fried rice is excellent. It's a huge plate with huge shrimp! It could have gotten 5 stars except for the fact that.... The service SUCKS! Literally takes forever and the music is wayyyy too loud. Felt like I was at a dance club at 1pm.

Pathetic service and awful food, staff is not knowledgeable about what is in their menu. They mixed up our order with some one else and on top of that they charged it on our bill. Upon complaining, manager said that the waiteress will have to pay for it to make us feel guilty. DO NOT go with your Groupon, they will treat you as if they are providing you a free service and even with a $30 Groupon, the average bill without drinks for 2 Adults will come up to $65+. NOT worth it. i

Tried the Thai side of the menu on my first visit. Hot and sour soup wasn't sour at all. But it was edible. Pineapple fried rice came in a pineapple but lacked any pineapple flavor. The rice was bit soggy and was bland. Shrimp pad thai wasn't bad. It wasn't the best pad thai but it was definitely better than the fried rice. Good flavor. Wish they had bigger tofu pieces to balance out the sauce. I was looking forward to the beef satay. They over marinated and over tenderized the meat making it almost unrecognizable. Didn't have authentic thai satay taste. Waste of $8. I'll come back and try the sushi menu and drink specials. daosushiandthai.com/SPEC… . There were a lot of ppl chilling at the bar and getting drunk on a Monday night.

Scored a good deal on Groupon, so decided to take my husband here for his birthday. Went on a Sunday night. It was busy so I figured that was a good sign. He ordered the sushi/sashimi entree plate which was Chef's Choice, and we also had the Red Dragon roll. I am not a huge sushi fan (purely a textural, personal problem, haha) but enjoyed a piece of the roll. Also had the shrimp and pork dumplings, which were fine but nothing special. As my entree, I had the sesame chicken which was really good- not too sweet, just sweet enough. My husband really enjoyed the rest of his sashimi and sushi. This is really easy to get to from 55, which is also a huge plus.

I've been here twice for lunch, and both times were okay. The look of this place is really nice for strip mall sushi/Thai -- water features and ambiance abound. The first time I went I just had a basic bento box, the second time I got the chef's nigiri special, both were pretty solid. It's reasonable sushi in a nice environment. But, my fellow yelpers, the reason I gave Dao just three stars is that several sushi places in the western burbs offer comparable (in some cases better) sushi for lesser prices. In addition, the service wasn't mind blowingly awesome either time. The wait staff was friendly to be sure, but in both cases there were issues: special requests were politely acknowledged, promised, then ignored or forgotten; water glasses went unfilled... just general annoying, but not terrible issues. All in all, it's a safe bet.

We brought our three kids here for hibachi. The best part of our experience was the ambiance...the place looks and feels really cool. The food was really mediocre, however. Just lacking in flavor. And the service was slow. We will not come back again, sadly.

Chinese owners & back of the house staff that serve Thai food and sushi. That in itself is not bad. What's bad is their frugality - they recycle the pineapples and palm leaves used to garnish the presentation of the food! Don't EVER get the "fried rice served in a pineapple" (the name escapes me at the moment) and don't touch pretty much anything that embellishes the plate - this includes the palm leaf. Sushi is mediocre at best - their rolls are drowned in sauces (take a look at some of their signature items) and expensive! Stay away.

Great sushi in the suburbs?! Say it isn't so. High quality food, also solid and friendly service. Great for eat in and take out. One of our standard go to spots.

We went here for my mother's *not gonna say it, Mom, even though you look gorgeous* birthday, and we were with some very frequenting customers who was asking me and mother (and other people too, but they are not on yelp) about everything making sure we liked this place. This is very near my Nana's house (that's what we pseudo-southerners call grandmothers) , and we have been looking for a decent sushi joint in that area. Since there are NONE in Butt Ridge, this place has a leg up. The decor is very cool for a suburban sushi place, even though parts of it clash, ie. the 7ft. buddha fountain. The rolls are as inventive as some of our favorite city joints. (sunshine and mango tango were to die for!) the tom yung kha (spelling?) soup with curry chicken and miscellaneous vegetables with a heaping pile of cilantro (chazzy like cilantro, mommy like as well) was fantastic. BUT, the miso soup (a giant judge of a sushi place for me) was brown water, with dollsized tofu. :( RUINED YOUR HOT STREAK, DAO. Overall, they sent out a variety of things and were very generous. 4 stars.

Let me start off saying this is just an OK restaurant. A pretentious and overpriced Japanese and Thai place with Chinese owner(s). Don't get me wrong, I'm Chinese myself too, but when it comes to be a food critic, I'm never bias. Though it is a Japanese and Thai place, the Thai menu is limited at best. A Beef Green/Red Curry priced at $16 is truly overpriced, no matter how they serve it. I went with family, and we ordered the Spider roll and a Sashimi dinner to share. The Spider roll priced right at $9, but the soft shell crab was fried a bit too dry. Now, the Sashimi dinner, with 15 pieces of assorted sashimi (salmon, white tuna, red snapper, tuna, clam) , and come with a bowl of Miso soup and salad priced at $27, not extreme expensive, but it ain't no bargain either. There was a small episode with my drink order which I found a bit shady. I ordered a small Asahi at the beginning, but the server came with a large one with the cap opened; he said that they were out of the small and asked if I would take the large one. I, of course declined. If they are out of the small Asahi, they should come to inform me first before offering me an opened large one. I ended up orderng a small Kirin instead. And the end of the dinner, we were thinking of ordering dessert; however, we didn't after realizing that none of the selections were house-made. So, considered you've been warned.

I usually order carryout before dine in to new restaurants. Why? Carryout is how they mess things up. Because you don't see what you have until you get home. This way I can tell if they run a honest business. So I ordered 2 lunch makizushi rolls. Portions were small and the fish tasted like frozen fish. That's all I have to say. It took 15 minutes to get my order. It was Friday lunch hour and business was moderate. 2 possibilities, either they don't know what they were doing or they forgot my order.

I work down the street from the newly opened Dao Sushi, and with our limited lunch options in the neighborhood you can imagine I was pretty excited when Dao opened their doors. I even stopped in for lunch the day they opened. Hurrah! First day, first impression: the sushi was fine, not outstanding, but decent. Pricey, however...that's Burr Ridge for you. Fast forward a few months and my company arranged for Dao to cater in "Sushi Tuesdays" for the employees. They sent out a big announcement with the food offerings...anything from sushi to fried rice and even chicken teriyaki, all ranging from $5-10. Awesome! It started out really well...they sold out of their pre-made meals the first week, and then the following week (the day after a holiday) they didn't have a great turnout. It's only been downhill from there. Last week they didn't show up. No notice, no nothing. Just a no-show. I was hungry and frustrated. I understand that these people are running a restaurant, not lunch food service for office employees, but to blatantly disregard an agreement such as this that my company is working very hard at keeping speaks very poorly of Dao's management. Whether their sushi is good or not, I've lost all respect for the business. Too bad...it could have been really good for everyone.

An uneven experience on our first visit. We walked in without a reservation on a Tuesday night and were seated at about 6:20. We got some water right away...and then nothing. We waited 20 minutes before I had to go up to the hostess and tell her that all four tables in our section were waiting to see a waitress. After the hostess talked to our supposed server, she (the hostess) came to our table and said, "I can take your drink order." I said that I'd much prefer to put in a food order, since we'd been waiting so long and had read the menu ten times over. The server then appeared and took our drink and food orders. The sushi came out quickly, and the server was extremely apologetic about her late arrival. We had the following: - Spider Roll (Deep fried soft shell crab, avocado, cucumber, masago) Very good overall, if you're into spider rolls. - Weber Roll (Baked smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado, crabmeat & soy bean paper) Interesting, a lot going on flavor-wise, very smoky flavor to it. It did have some sort of masago on it that was not listed on the menu. I wouldn't order it every visit, but it was an interesting change of pace from the norm. - Rainbow Roll (Tuna, salmon, yellow tail over crabmeat, avocado and cucumber.) Generally good, although some of the pieces used for the outer roll were unevenly cut, making for some odd textures at points. - Alaskan roll (fairly standard) My only real issue with the sushi was that many of the rolls on the menu involve the same primary seafoods (tuna, eel, salmon and crab), so it's hard to find real variety with some of them. A lot of them involve avocado, as well. There are a few rolls that use some interesting items (octopus, or mango, or oranges), but in general, I would have liked to see a handful more rolls that worked with one main fish, instead of using the same three or four together every time. Four rolls of sushi (two "special" rolls, two regular) and a glass of wine were about $63 with tax & tip included. Not a bad experience, and I'm hoping that the service improves. I would give Dao another chance, and will probably return.

I went here with my family one day out of curiousity and an attempt to find a new favorite sushi restaurant since Matsuya on Clark closed. Being in Burr Ridge, I was prepared to taste the pretentiousness in their sushi. The interior was interesting. Kinda dark, but it gave off a warm feeling. They seated us to the side of the restaurant where you walk up a couple steps to a separate "room" divided by shoji screens. The screens could be removed, so it would make a really nice private party place. really enjoyed that part. I was super comfortable eating cross legged on pillows like how I do at home. I ordered the Chicken Curry. It probably would have been a lot better if they didn't give me sushi rice instead of plain, white rice. But the situation was understandable, i suppose. They had a huge party the other night and were still unable to restock. It was good. Not the best I ever had but I still enjoyed it. I stole some sushi from my mom. She had the dragon roll and it was expertly crafted. The presentation of the food was really nice. Which probably contributes to why they charge so much for their food. Their desserts are also amazing, btw. I had the molten lava cake and it was almost too rich for me; this is coming from a chocoholic. Overall, the sushi was authentic, but pricey. It's definitely not a place i would frequent, like Matsuya was, or else I would be broke. But I would consider going here on special occassions.

Never knew I could find such great sushi in the suburbs! My girlfriend and I had decided to go to Color Me Mine and paint some pottery in downtown Burr Ridge Friday night and I decided that she should step outside her comfort zone of Flat Top and CPK. So we went to Dao Sushi and Thai. As soon as we walked in it was a wonderful experience. I felt like I was immediately transported to a chic place in the city! I didn't expect such hospitality and so many people to be out. I quickly realized it was Friday night and for those in the suburbs this is the nightlife! I didn't feel like I missed the city for even a second. My friend and I sat at the sushi bar and watched the chef make roll after roll with such finesse and accuracy. I ordered two specialty rolls...the Her Passion and Dragon on Fire. Usually specialty rolls are just ordinary rolls with fancy names and a few tweaks but these were amazing!!! I am still salivating thinking about the Dragon on Fire. I can't even do it justice by describing it you just have to make a quick 25min trip out of the city and check it out for yourself...there is great shopping, spa/salons and even a Fred Astare dance studio right down the street to make the experience even better, if that's possible! The only complaint I have if it's even considered that was that it was a bit pricey for what they served. I know sushi is expensive but even the best restaurants don't have such high prices for all their rolls.

I am a big lover and expert of an Asian food. I can only judge on Thai menu items what they had since we did not try sushi over here. They are getting 3 stars only because of the ambiance, decor and service. This is NOT an AUTHENTIC THAI food !!! It is Americanized version of it. If you never experienced real Asian kitchen-maybe it is a good place to start :) We came here on slow Wednesday night at 4:30pm when they just opened for dinner service. Since we were the first customers-service was fast and pleasant. I liked the modern decor, cleanliness, music - all those little things who sometimes can ruin your meal. I would suggest this place for a quiet date or smthg. I ordered one of my favorite soups -TOM YUM. It came with..tomatoes, green peppers and a champignon mushrooms... What ?? really ??? Where is my piece of lemongrass, red chilies and shiitake ?? The broth tasted like it was added ketchup . Based on that I would given this place a 1 star.. We also ordered a basil fried rice with chicken- this dish was actually pretty decent, except those damn CHAMPIGNONS again... Mongolioan beef -18$.. Was just OK. if you consider paying 18$ for "just ok" meal .. :) i ordered Chefs recommendation- Drunken Red Snapper 25$. hm.. I honestly think they really ruined a very nice fish by putting that ketchupy tasting sauce all over it. The presentation of it was phenomenal - like in a fancy downtown restaurant. I would give 3-4 stars for it. Next time I would order with a sauce on the side. The best dish of the evening was a Kang Massaman beef 14$. Tasted and looked 5 stars ! My suggestion-they should work more on their dishes, making them more authentical, rather than concentrating on the presentation . If you would ask me-I am never coming back. You want to know why ? because i love authenticity and TOM Yum really sucked.......

My girlfriend introduced me to Dao before the holidays. We had a few rolls and they were all excellent. I also ordered a some salmon toro and it was some of the best I have ever eaten, anywhere! The miso soup was outstanding too. The atmosphere is better than it would appear from the outside. I look forward to returning the next time I am dining in the area.

So, we went here before I had a massage appointment at Kohler - and I gave up the usual trip to Cooper's Hawk for a Champagne Flight for this, so it had some standards to live up to. Needless to say, it did not. The atmosphere and amenities are nice, but when you are a restaurant, food and service have to be spot on or people will not be coming back. Our waitress spent 80% of her time talking to the other staff and we were one of only two tables she was serving. I also find it ridiculous that the females are wearing "Eat me Raw" shirts. This isn't Hooters, people. (The men had "I'm on a Roll" ones). The husband got the fried pumpkin and sweet potato balls to start and thought they were good. He then had the Yaki Udon and said it was Ok, but nothing special. I ate a miso soup (standard stuff), shrimp and asparagus roll and a mango tango roll (tuna, mango, avocado, crab and cucumber with mango sauce) The sushi was good, but again, nothing fabulous. The most ridiculous part was being served our tea in a tiny pot with glasses that were literally cordial glasses. This is tea, not shots of liquor. And, the water was so luke warm that it took forever for the tea bloom to open and flavor the water (I could hold the glass pot on my open hand without a problem = too cold) And, we only got a water refill AFTER we had finished 95% of our meal. Same goes for the water. So, in 6 weeks at my next massage, I will naturally be going elsewhere.

I heard they only opened for a week, good location, Dao is located in a nice mall, honestly I'm not so familiar in this area, just because I have to go to my friend's house so I went there with my friend to get some dinner before we go, restaurant is very nice, it was packed! Upscale decor, friendly service, we sat by the sushi bar since we did not make reservation, no table were available. The sushi chef was so kindly to tell us what the best sushi for the night, we ordered 3 rolls and mix tempura as starter, mix tempura so crispy, rainbow roll, spicy scallop roll, mango roll are great, I have to add credit on their presentation, its awesome! If you are roll lovers then you have to go Dao, they really have a great menu on that! I didn't try their Thai food, because I didn't see any good selection on Thai food plus they are overpriced, but always good have a restaurant doing some fusion stuff. They also have some private room if you have a party of or more than 6, it's like very traditional Japaneses"Ta Ta Me", where let the people sit on the floor instead of chairs, very cool. Sushi price are standard and not over charge, I always think there must be some reason if you see the restaurant is packed when you pull in to the door, I guess I'm right again, ha ha! It's not an authentic Japanese restaurant and the owner I guess is Chinese, don't get me wrong, they serve a good food but I prefer to get something authentic from truly Japanese restaurant.

Dao has been one of our favorites since it first opened. The decor is very relaxing and low key. Jo Jo the owners wife is always there to see to your needs or correct a wrong if one is made. The Sushi is fun, presented beautifully and fresh. $$$ but Sushi always is! We took several Japanese customers in from Japan and they said the Uni was the best they ever had. My favorite are the fish dishes. Red Snapper flashed fried is sooo good with the Thai sauce over it. Jumbo prawns over coconut sauce with walnuts, prawns salt & pepper (spicy and good) or sesame prawns are all delicious. It is just a good place to relax and enjoy good conversation and if there is any problem just tell "Jo Jo" that's why she is there.

Terrible food and service. Waiter brought me a mango tuna roll (disgusting) instead of the rainbow roll I ordered and refused to correct the problem. Waiter didn't even acknowledge that he had made an error Red dragon roll had spicy mayo or some kind of dark red/pink sauce on it that made me wonder how much food coloring they put in there. Their Thai food wasn't much better. Being Asian, I know my Asian food. I would've been happier staying home and eating a PB&J sandwich. If you're in the neighborhood, save your time and money. Either go to the Subway next door or if you're on a date, check out Cooper's Hawk in the other shopping plaza next door. One star is being generous.

Portions are smaller for the price than most Asian fare restaurants I've been to, but the dishes are usually very good. I really love the Thai cuisine here. The sweetness that the coconut juice adds to the dish makes them worth trying if you are new to this type of food. The only dish I was not impressed with was the Mongolian Beef. Way too salty for my taste buds. Ambiance is very classy, and service is good. Overall, this is not my favorite place but is a solid choice if in the area and in the mood for sushi and/or Thai food.

I went to Dao with some friends and the decor of the place was nice, but the service was very, very slow. I had the sushi and sashimi combo and found the sushi and sashimi to be a little to warm for my taste. the sweetheart rolls were pretty good. We ordered 4 glasses of wine and they didn't have the wine we ordered and the waiter replaced it with more expensive glasses, imagine that. I agree with Sam K. when he said that we should have been informed about them not having what we ordered before replacing it with the more expensive drinks. I ordered some octopus sushi with my meal also and didn't receive it until about half way thru the meal. I got some weird story about how the sushi chef have to take orders in order. I thought to myself we put our order in together, why didn't my octopus just come out with our order. To top it off once the bill came our server tacked on a bottle of wine we didn't even order, So pay attention to your bill. Over all It's ok I won't go back for a long, long time.

Tried this place out for the first time on 8/17/11. Upon first impression, this place is beautiful. Much larger than I thought it was. However, our first impression was quickly soured by our waiter. He clearly would have rather been anywhere but at his job. Took nearly 10 minutes to be greeted by him. He quickly took our drink order and ran away before we could order appetizers. Our appetizers came out quickly and were very tasty. However, we waited an additional 40 minutes (after we finished eating appetizers) for our sushi rolls. We ordered them at the same time. After 30 minutes of waiting our waiter finally addressed the wait, but only with an "I'm sorry" offering nothing more or even a time frame... blamed it on a "rush" (there was no wait time and there were several open tables). When our food finally came out, I have to admit I was incredibly pleased with the quality. Probably the freshest sushi I've had in the suburbs. Everything seemed to melt in your mouth. I will try this place again. Hopefully their waitstaff understands that regardless of whatever day you're having, your there to serve customers who are going to shell out around $100 (for 2, including drinks). You could AT LEAST crack a smile and let them know you care.

Very deceiving from the outside. It's a beautiful restaurant inside. No host / hostess when we came in and a waitress was staring at us by the sushi bar, so we thought we needed to go to her. As we were walking, a guy said, "can I help you?" that was carrying takeout to the front with his coat on. Guess he was the host. :) This is my only complaint - the weird start. Otherwise, this place is really good! Had a Groupon and didn't get treated second class like you sometimes do with Groupons. We did hibachi with some sushi as a starter. My 11 year old niece tried sushi for the first time and loved it. Tuna was melt in your mouth good! I loved the fried rice, not heavily weighed down with teryaki like some places do. Grill chef was very funny and entertained everyone at the table - very talented flipping eggs on the back of a spatula. :) Portions were huge and the price was very comparable to other hibachi grills. My hubby usually finishes his shrimp and scallop combo, he took home half from here because the portion was so big. I like that they have a tofu appetizer if you don't want the shrimp appetizer. Hubby ordered it and they gave him a lot and he said it was great. We love Rokbonki up in Arlington Heights but it's a long drive for us, so we are very happy to find a closer spot with great food. Looking forward to trying the Thai food next and sitting at the cool floor tables.

Great find!!! Very nice place with trendy decor and a nice vibe. Very extensive menu, mostly japanese/sushi with a few hints of thai thrown in here and there. Everything was excelent, we tried the peppered seared tuna, gyoza, yellowtail jalepeno and miso glazed black cod. Probably one of the best Gyoza I have ever had. I will definetly be back to sample some more dishes.

A coworker and I wanted some sushi for lunch today so I placed an order at 12:15 pm. It was pretty simple, their lunch special pick 3 rolls and some curry entree. Anyway, the man says okay great, it will be ready in 15-20 minutes. Well, I was there in 20 minutes and waited another 20 minutes for my food to be ready. The guy apologized said he so sorry, blah blah blah so I just thought okay, everyone has a bad day...But Wait! I get back to the office and notice that food I ordered wasn't even in my bag. I ended up with some miso soup, salad, NO CURRY for my coworker and two rolls of sushi. Needless to say, I will NEVER order from there again and what a waste of $30.

Who puts shitake, tomatoes, and cucumbers in fried rice? This place does! Gross. Very high prices, I suppose they think they can get away with it being in Burr Ridge. Had all kinds of stuff on the menu including sushi, noodles, soup, chicken, fried rice, appetizers, etc.... Food is decent, not great. Portions are very small for the price they charge. I guess there is some kind of habachi grill coming??? I might try this place again if a group was going, but they better dazzle me next time because I wasn't all that impressed this time.

yummmmm great experience. had a sister's night out, very successful. our server sue/susan... amazing. so hilarious. everyone was super stuffy but we all had great laughs. 5 rolls later and 2 bombas, me and her are in sushi comas. would recommend :-) her passion roll, especially delish. atmosphere is great too. food prep time a little long, but whose counting? hello food is gorgeous. definitely a sushi gem!

My husband, daughter, and I tried this new restaurant, walking distance from our home in Burr Ridge. The atmosphere/decor is very comfortable and inviting. There is a full service bar area and a full service sushi bar. The sushi/sashimi I had was incredible! Very well with presentation and so, so fresh! We also ordered some Thai and it was also very good. It may seem a little bit pricier than those small places in Chicago, like in Lakeview and Lincoln Park but parking is easy and it is not a BYOB. We dined on a Monday evening. I saw that the weekends are packed, which says a lot. Service was also impeccable. I will be a returning customer! Bon Apetite!

DAO Sushi and Thai Restaurant is the prime Asian restaurant in Burr Ridge. Its diverse pan-asian menu can only be complimented by outstanding service. Hot or cold appetizers can start off any meal, and proceed the Burr Ridge restaurant's signature rolls. Signature rolls can include the 8 piece a tuna, salmon, and yellow tail Rainbow Roll or a 6-piece deep fried Monster Roll. Of course, no meal could be complete with freshly prepared sushi rolls. Thai entries are very typical and include different curry assortments and seafood.

Went here with my husband since it is new in our area. The service is very slow, and the food is not anything I would write home about... no distinct flavors. The Desserts seem prepackaged and were not very good at all. Great decor and I would go for happy hour!

My girlfriend's friend gave us a 30$ Groupon for this place as a gift. It clearly stated on the groupon fine print "lunch Monday thru Friday 11-3". So we decide to go there for lunch today before she had to go to work. We made a reservation and I told whoever answered the phone that we had a groupon so we would not run into any conflicts. Again when we first walk in I let the hostess know we had a groupon as I like to be upfront about it so we don't run into problems later. One more time when the waiter comes to take our order I tell him we have a groupon and even let him take it from me so he has it to reference off of so there are no problems after we order. Since the groupon said lunch from monday thru friday 11-3 I thought I could order of the lunch menu. So I talk to the waiter and he goes to ask someone what restrictions we have on this groupon (keep in mind he has the groupon to show whoever he is asking about it). He says no we cannot order off the lunch menu which I was fine with just thought I would ask. So I order the chicken Habachi and I have to say it was pretty good, not really impressive but hey I had a free 30$ groupon so I really have nothing to complain about. My girlfriend shared the chicken with me and also ordered beef fried rice as she loves fried rice. She says it wasn't bad but she would rather order from our local Chinese restaurant which is half the price (Golden Wok in Lagrange Park). The ambience was nice a little dark but I don't mind, My girlfriend loved the decor however. Then the problems came after we were done eating. My girlfriend asked for a to go box for her fried rice and our waiter kindly took her rice and said he would take care of it for her. Then a portly fellow who I assume was some sort of manager was walking toward us with the groupon in hand and I knew trouble was coming at this point. He came to our table and proceeded to tell us that this groupon was actually for dinner and that their restaurant has a seprate groupon for lunch as the lunch entrees are cheaper. this whole time he was talking to us like we did something wrong which I didn't think we did. I'm sorry I don't know about your whole series of groupons. I kept saying Ok, well every step at the way beginning with our reservation I mentioned the groupon we had and even gave our groupon to your staff before we ordered. Lecture the waiter and whoever we talked to about your groupon policy, I dont want to hear it. so after this exchange I paid our bill and was ready to leave and of course the waiter forgot our fried rice. So I locate our waiter (he was great other than this mistake, very nice guy) and he goes to get the food. He comes back and tells us he can't locate it and that someone must have tosses it. At this point I'm just ready to get out of this place. Please restaurant owners, if you want to offer groupons to attract new business you should treat these customers just as good as you would treat anyone else. If you are going to treat people who come in with groupons as 2nd rate customers then don't even bother offering it. You're losing money and you make us feel like we are terrible people and honestly I will never come back to this restaurant. What did you get out of that groupon? 5 dollars from me and a 7 dollar tip because I honestly felt bad for our waiter (but that was before I found out our leftovers were thrown out). I really hope that it got thrown out on accident but I have a suspicion they withheld it because of this whole groupon fiasco.

Went to Dao for lunch today. Was a little skeptical of the price from previous reviewers. They do have a lunch menu now (11am - 3pm) for different sushi and thai items that were reasonably priced. I was hungry and decided to order a la carte sushi. Got California, Spicy Tuna, and Shrimp Tempura Rolls (each roll was 6 pieces), and they all were quite good. Spicy tuna was a little different than I've had at previous sushi places or in Japan, but still had good flavor, just not same texture of tuna that I am used to. Additionally ordered two pieces of Unagi Sushi, and they were a little fattier than I like for Unagi, but still decent. All 3 rolls and the 2 Unagi pieces cost $18. Overall, it's a decent place for Sushi. It's not the best sushi I've had (thats reserved for Japan and extremely good US sushi restaurants), but it by no means was bad. It had a good atmosphere and the waiting staff was very punctual and kind. No problems. Will return again.

I want to like this place, and I probably will... eventually. A friend recommended it, and recently when I was looking for a carry-out dinner just for myself I called to place a carry-out order. I ordered a golden shrimp appetizer and a Burr Ridge roll. The first surprise was when they told me that the order would be ready in 30 minutes. Hmmm... must be busy. I can get a pizza in less time. So I arrived a couple minutes past the 30 min mark and stood around (with a few others who had wandered in) waiting for a hostess/manager. I received my order maybe 10 minutes later; but definitely got the impression that they were short staffed. I'm sure that service was slow for the dine in patrons. Picked up the bag containing my order and immediately thought that it felt light. I know we're not talking pasta here, but I wondered how much food I had received for my $27. When I got home, I looked at the small tray containing the Burr Ridge roll ($16) and was surprised at the small size. The appetizer ($9) was larger. Food quality: I liked the roll. It was tasty, although clearly an Americanized (Burr Ridgeized?) version of a sushi roll. If it cost $9, I would have said it was fairly priced and very good. $16 is too much, and I'm basing that opinion on prices at downtown sushi joints. The golden shrimp appetizer was also good despite the fact that it had probably left the fryer 20 minutes before I had a chance to eat it. I can only imagine how it would have tasted had it been served hot. At $9, it was not cheap but certainly not outrageously priced like the roll. I know that they've been open for about 4 months. Seems like they're still working out the kinks. I'll give it another shot in about a month, but for the price I would expect much better.

We have now eaten at Dao twice and we have had decent experiences each time. We are ecstatic to have a sushi restaurant in the neighborhood, but the prices will make us reconsider returning. I have to say... the food is good, above average. The sushi is very good: the pieces are fresh and fairly-priced and the rolls are also tasty, but average $13-$14 each. These hefty prices make some of the less trendy sushi bars in the area more appealing. The thai and Chinese dishes are decent, but, alas, also over-priced. A smallish Mongolian beef runs $14 or $15! Finally, the service definitely needs fine-tuning. We received our food before our kids' teriyaki chicken and each item was slow in arriving. Overall, this restaurant has great potential. They need to work out the kinks with service and they will not be able to get away with charging Randolph Street prices in the suburbs.

Great spot! Surprised it is not more crowded more often. Good for lunch or dinner. Weekend dinner is getting more busy as more people discover this spot. Awfully quite for lunch, but that just means great service for those that are there. Can't find anything bad to say about this place. Try it.

GREAT SUSHI!! I recommend the burr ridge roll it is my favorite! Very nice on the inside and excellent service. Would recommend going for lunch (11-3) because they have great lunch specials/deals! I think its 9$ for 2 rolls, miso soup and a salad. Or 11$ for three rolls, soup and salad. You have to select the rolls from a certain list but the list is large. Great place!!

Great spot. The food is very tasty and the location is great. I find absolutely great the back area where you can be seated on some cushions, very comfy and fun; perfect for a group of friends. Love it.

The food was amazing, but I disliked sitting at the sushi bar when you can see everything that goes on in the back through the swinging doors. I thought I saw someone smoking at one point, and then I saw people eating and then i found the truth about the desserts... that are FROZEN. Which upset me because I really wanted to order something from their delicious desert menu until I saw their freezer full of them.

Service was excellent. Cucumber martini was amazing. Crab Rangoon was the best we'd ever had. And highly recommend the White Sox roll! We'd came here because we'd purchased a Groupon, but it turned out to be for the Hibachi tables only (not for sushi area), so we will be back!

This place has everything! Hibachi, sushi & oyster shooters! Yep, I said it. Dao is tucked in a strip mall but has all the elegance of a fancy restaurant. We have visited at least four times & every time, the service & food has been spot on. The sushi is well put together, the hibachi chefs are talented and the fried rice is DELISH! A must try is the oyster shooter.. there is a raw quail egg on top but it is pretty damn flavorful! Be adventurous like we were & give it a shot (pun intended ; )). Wednesday is half off hibachi (chicken, shrimp and vegetable) but if you're drinking you'll still spend a pretty penny.

Came here on a Friday with my husband and the BIL. My husband and I have dined at the Dao Oakbrook location many times before and have always had an excellent experience. We ordered a TON of food because me and the Mr. are trying to introduce my BIL to new cuisines. Dao is Pan-Asian but that night we mainly focused on Sushi and Thai. Service: EXCELLENT. Our server's name was Lisa. She was a hoot! Once I told her were trying to get my BIL to try new cuisines she took every effort to make useful suggestions. Food: A) Miso Soup: The Mr. and I in hushed voices casually said "hmm, why don't we get two Misos?" And our waitress with her eagle like hearing came from half way across the restaurant and said "you guys can have these two on the house! this couple on the other side just decided that they don't want soup anymore-- I didn't even get to serve them this". Works for me! Miso was piping hot and excellent. 10/10. B) Tom Kha Gai: 9/10. Served in the CUTEST serve ware, and fully fragrant. Full bodied flavors. I got this with chicken, and you could taste the fresh cut veggies. 9/10 instead of 10/10 because of personal preference for less bell peppers, but the Mr. gave it a 10/10! C) Pineapple-Basil Fried Rice: Again, my hat goes off to our server! Very astute and has a good knack for flavors. Originally I just wanted to order pineapple fried rice for the BIL but I couldn't find it on the menu; I asked the waitress and she said no problem if it wasn't on the menu, she'll have us taken care of! When the dish came out she said she had them add basil to it to really tie in the flavors, and I will say she made a good call with that. 8/10 D) Philadelphia Roll: This one is a roll the Mr. and I always get no matter where we go for sushi. It's a simple classic. Cream cheese, salmon; give or take avocado. What I like about the philly roll here is that the salmon they use is SMOKED. so it gives it the nicest flavor palette, definitely my favorite place for a philly roll. 10/10. E) Sweet Potato Roll: I'm not a sweet potato roll fan myself, but this is a good roll to get someone who doesn't like fish quite yet, and you're still trying to ease into the idea and textures of sushi. It's like a training wheels for your bike type of sushi. BIL gave it a 8/10 F) Mango Tango Roll: Definitely a favorite, sweet, savory. Tuna, crab, cucumber and fresh avocado overlaid with alphonso mango slices and a mango drizzle. Love this one; and the presentation and colors of it never cease to impress; 11/10! G) Volcano Roll: This one is a fun one to order just on presentation alone! When it comes out it comes with a "volcano" that's on fire! It goes out eventually, but not before you're able to take some great pictures! When our waitress came over she was astute enough to notice I had been taking pictures so she patiently waited for me to take pictures, and even held the plate in certain positions that she deemed would give the food the best angle (and she was right!). Taste profile: tempura roll with cream cheese, jalepeno, white tuna, avocado and crab meat. Always a fun favorite! 9.5/10! H) Pad Thai: Ohhhhh I loved this! We ALL loved this. We added chicken to this one. DEFINITELY a great dish to introduce Thai cuisine to someone for the first time, or even to someone who has had Pad Thai multiple times! Egg, scallions, toasted peanuts, oh god you can't go wrong with this one. 10/10!! I) Kang Massaman: We got this with beef, This one I tried on a whim based off the interesting history of the dish (definitely worth a google!). The Thai flavors of coconut milk, onions, peanuts fused with the thai interpretation of Persian flavors of cardamom, cinnamon, anise, bay leaves, chili and tamarind. I cannot recommend this one enough-- but its definitely for those with an open mind and open taste palette. This one is a definite favorite! It flavors are deep and rich, and with the beef, potatoes and onion in the dish it's hearty and rich. The flavors meld so well, your taste buds will sing. But again, open mind open pallete only! 11/10! J) Red Bean Ice Cream: Rich, creamy and a definite asian ice cream flavor staple! It wasn't on the menu per say, but we asked if they had it (the Oakbrook location did) and they did! 9/10! K) Mango Mochi/Red Bean Mochi: DEEE-LICIOUS. Can't ever go wrong with mango, and that in combination with the fun texture of mochi is impossible to say no to. The mochi was the perfect temperature, neither too hard or too soft. Both get a 10/10! Other Tidbits: 1) This location doesn't use OpenTable, Only Dao Oakbrook does 2) Happy hour wednesdays (and another day) where their signature rolls are 50% off! 3) Check their FB page, usually a $20 off $60 coupon TL;DR: Lisa was EXCELLENT; understood our ding experience goal. Presentation of dishes is thought out. Sushi & Thai options are DELICIOUS Flavor profile is always on point. Get the Pad Thai if you're new to Thai food, Kang Massaman if you're adventurous

I'm giving this place 5 stars only because of the Customer Service. We had the Hibachi style dinner which was a great experience. It was awesome watching the guy do his thing but the best was the way the waitress interacted with my children and the constant compliments of how well my children behaved from everyone around the table, It's definitely a good parenting boost. Everyone there was super nice even the strangers we sat with. Cons ~ Now as for the food uhh I hate to say it because they were so nice but it was not too good. The fried rice was too salty not much taste, the grilled chicken was dry and the New York Steak was just okay. I could have done a better job grilling one at home. Pros ~ The grilled shrimp app was really good. They give you two different sauces to dip your meat and seafood in, one was a teriyaki sauce the other like a yellow sweet mayonnaise type which was our favorite. They give you soup and salad with the meal which I think is not necessary. It comes with their house salad which is okay but they give you so little dressing you're left with a plain bowl of lettuce, one slice of cucumber and a half slice of tomato. The house soup had a unique taste. Different. My son wants the whole family to go for his birthday so I'm guessing he was a fan. Over all our waitress made it a wonderful experience. Couldn't really understand the hibachi cook but we just giggled and nodded our heads.

This is hands down the absolute worst hibachi restaurant I have ever ate in. When reviewing in an effort to be objective one would offer the "good" along with the "bad". Unfortunately I'm sorry to report there is no good to go with the bad. From absent aesthetics, to poor service and downright inedible food the experience overall is just disgraceful. As an avid Teppan style diner, I'd highly recommend taking your business elsewhere. This is the 1st time I've seen lobster cooked to the point you could call it blackened. I wish that were the extent of the problems, but the fact of the matter is that blackened lobster had more flavor than the rest of the meal combined. Taco Bell would serve as a more satisfactory meal and overall experience. It really is a shame, because DAO in Oakbrook Terrace is great. This is black and white case of you know what you know and nothing else. Teppanyaki is not their strong suit.

Once again, here I am celebrating a girlfriends' birthday and once again I'm glad this is her fave sushi spot in the burbs. They were on point again, and I'm glad I went. It was a Monday evening and on Mondays all of the specialty rolls are 50% off. We had something on fire roll, green devil, volcano, dynamite, and Burr Ridge roll. Also a 77 something roll. The one on fire was the best. The rest were also good, and fresh. We tried the grilled calamari which I would say is a skip. I've had this before, just not here, and although it's never been a fave dish for me, I wouldn't get this again here. We had seared tuna and a filet to share and some inventive cocktails. Service was very attentive, with a birthday surprise at the end, and all but calamari was good, and really inexpensive on this Monday. If your in the area for sushi, it's a good pick.

Half price signature rolls Wednesday (Sunday half price rolls and half price appetizers) Sit at the sushi bar and enjoy the show. I came here after trying to figure out why I was paying hidden charges on my phone bill. next door at the At&T. I needed a drink very fast to calm down. BOOM the drinks hit the spot. and I found a new favorite Sushi spot nearby.

Dao was really good mainly because everything was so fresh on the night I visited. Uni Sushi - very fresh, perfect balance of uni and rice Uni/Quail Egg Shooter - my first time having one of these shooters, it was very, very sour, it took me by surprise but it was a good kind of surprise, I liked it Yellowtail/Jalapeno Appetizer - this combination is really good, the jalapeno creates a good balance with the sashimi Tuna/Salmon/White Tuna Sashimi - so so so fresh, the white tuna was very good, the salmon needs to be cut into slices not a chunk on the plate like that, it was too thick Grilled Squid - good sauce, grilled very well, some places grill it for too long and it dries out or becomes a little burnt on the edges and on the tentacles but this one at Dao has been my favorite so far Volcano Roll - nice presentation but the roll itself was okay, I don't remember the taste so probably not very significant but I remember the presentation Pad See Ew - this was okay, it's not my favorite but it's not bad

I'm really starting to get into my sushi groove these days, and enjoy learning and trying new kinds of sushi. I have to say, this place had the best sushi I've tried! We arrived around 6, and were able to be seated immediately. The restaurant is a little dark, but cozy. We were seated in a booth along the edge, and were across from floor seating areas, which I'd never seen before in real life. That was interesting to see! Our server was knowledgeable and friendly, and sold the specials well. We ordered a $16 bottle of wine (house wine Wednesday special!!), the one of the rolls on special called the "Shi- shi" (please forgive me if I'm butchering the spelling!), the dragon on fire roll, and the White Sox roll. I love it when they have sushi that reflects what's popular around town- Cubs, Sox, and Bears roll options, and a Burr Ridge roll too are on the menu. All of the rolls were fantastic. The shi-shi roll had a ranch-style topping, the dragon on fire was a hot (baked) roll, with lots of crab in it, including two long tail pieces. The presentation was cool too with the little foil fire that came out with it! The White Sox roll was also a delight (see my pics for an idea of what we had!). Overall the experience was great. Prices for their special rolls were a little high (13-15 each), so I would take the recommendations of other yelpers to look for a restaurant.com deal, or groupon. I will definitely go back, though!

Second time at this location. Very good food (fast and delicious) and good service -sat at bar. Mexican roll was very large in size but fairly easy to eat and super yummy! Pear martini was delicious -not too sweet but strong! Ginger drink was very yummy too. Cute decor with lots of good seating options. Will definitely go back for more :)

We visited on a Tuesday night for my sons birthday. The service was good. The Hibachi chef was entertaining. The food was good. However, it was very expensive. You will pay downtown prices. I gave the waitress my card before we finished eating so that my dad could not pick up the bill. She ran it before bringing me the bill and would not accept our $20 coupon. The bill was $330. I asked to talk to a manager and she would not accept the coupon either because it would be too much work. The only thing she offered was to extend the date on the coupon. That was a slap in the face because those coupons are sent out multiple times a year. I emailed the corporate office but never from any one.

Don't go using groupon. They trick you. I show the groupon to the front lady and she took us to the table. She said that's fine. After dinner during payment waiter said this groupon works at Japanese side. Not here. There is no separate restaurant for this and do not have separate address and restaurant. I came the address you provided in groupon. If that's the case then give us separate address. Food was good and tasty.

Love sushi but this was awful. Couldn't chew the seaweed wrap, had to take apart the rolls and remove. Tempura shrimp was burnt. So much gooey rice in the rolls and not much else. Too many his sushi places around at better prices. Also, came for hibachi and there was Noone else at the table but we didn't have a reservation so we couldn't get it. My friend didn't even want to eat there after that.

Ordered chirashi (not on menu), and thoroughly enjoyed it. The fish was fresh, and the rice was magnificent -- far too good to cover with soy sauce and wasabi. :-). It came more like a sashimi with the rice off separately, including yellowtail (hamachi), redtail (toro), and red tuna (Maputo) plus salmon (sake) and egg slices(tomago) -- total 12 pieces -- in a beautiful display. Plus miso soup and salad. Fantastic lunch that will definitely bring me back. Domo Arigato :-) !

Been here several times because my bf craves this place literally once a week. I don't eat seafood, but they were very accomedating in making me a veggie sushi roll with whatever I wanted in it. They also have the best pot stickers with a fabulous dipping sauce. My favorite entree is the Pad See Eww, not sure how to spell this, but it is my go-to everytime.

We came here for a girls night and to enjoy their special Wednesday night pricing for the Hibachi grill. I must admit, I've been spoiled by having a lot of Hibachi in my life so I'm not easily impressed any more. Dao was a pleasant surprise. Their chefs have new tricks to make the experience feel new again, even to some one that has had the experience many times before. Our chef was very fun and engaging. He had us all trying to catch food in our mouths and he has great aim! It definitely gave us all something to laugh about and makes you feel like you're part of the show. Food wise, the soup and salad were not very impressive - but I feel like this is the case at most Hibachi restaurants. Grill side, I enjoyed the chicken fried rice, New York Strip, and fresh veggies. These items were all very flavorful, well prepared, and I had plenty to eat!

Let me just say it this, I never leave reviews. I don't care enough usually. But the service at Dao was unbelievable and fast and the food was incredible. I will definitely keep coming back. They were so friendly and on top of it. I can't get enough. If I wasn't so full I would order another meal. You definitely need to come in here and see Payton, he was so quick and kind and personable and a GREAT server.

If I could describe my experience at this restaurant in one word, it would be "uneven" With most of the negatives going to front of the house issues and the positives going to the kitchen staff. Positives for us included really awesome miso soup and satay. And my shrimp tempura roll was very fresh and beautifully presented. Front of the house issues, however, remain a concern. Witnessed two instances of the hosts being snippy and rude to customers and our server was not very attentive. Entrees came out right away, but then I sat there forever waiting for my glass of wine and a pair of chopsticks. Also odd/annoying. We were sitting close to a side exit door and for some unknown reason, the host was running in and out using that door. Every time, sending a big blast of cold air into the dining room. NOT appreciated! Bottom line: Not sure we'll be back anytime soon. Prefer the atmosphere and food at either the Sushi House in LaGrange, Nabuki in Hinsdale, or even Bistro Nami Sushi & Hibachi in Clarendon HIlls.

Good food, poor dining experience. The design of the dining room does not allow for a comfortable dining experience. - 1. Noise carries throughout the dining area. - 2. The front door ushers in a blast of cold winter air every time it opens. - 3. TVs play in the dining room, adding to a "bar" feel in the dining area. - 4. This place is a hit with parents who can't afford a babysitter. - 5. This place attracts parents who don't understand manners, resulting in kids who have no manners. When did it become OK to allow your children to scream at the top of their lungs in the middle of a restaurant? When did it become OK for parents to ignore their unruly children? What ever happened to telling children to use their inside voices? Isn't this why Chuck E Cheez's was invented? We asked to be moved three times to escape the highchair brigade, only to have a new group of obnoxious families placed next to us. We finally gave up, quickly ate or dinners, and took the bulk of our meal to go. I may order the food to go in the future, but won't tolerate the kiddie city scream fest.

This place was OK. It seems to be the only sushi place in Burr Ridge so we tried it. We like to sit at the bar and appreciate a bartender who knows how to make us feel welcome. This was lacking at Dao. It took forever to get another drink once we finished and when we did ask for more drinks the girl almost seemed bothered by it (even though we were the only people at the bar). The burr ridge roll was excellent but the rest of the sushi seemed average. The ambiance of this place is cool and their music selection is great if you like lounge-house-chill sounds. When it's cold out there is a huge gust of air that hits you when the door opens if you're sitting at the bar. This place is ok but would I return? Eh, I guess if it's my best option, I might.

A group of 8 friends and family chose the Hibachi at Dao to celebrate my retirement and graduation (I know, an odd combination). I had been once before at this location with one friend and the service and food was excellent. Unfortunately, this time not so much. We had reservations for more than a month because our date was the night before Mother's Day and we wanted to assure space for our group. We were seated promptly and the waiter was quite good. However, the hibachi grill chef was clearly inexperienced. One friend finally asked him how long he'd been working there and he claimed it was a year. We don't believe it. He immediately broke 2 eggs in an attempt to perform the standard juggling routine and after the second he counted the remaining eggs, deciding there weren't enough to try again and he just cooked the rice. It continued downhill when he asked who we were celebrating. One friend pointed to me, giving my name and he proceeded to tell everyone to sing Happy Birthday. We looked at each other confused, but before we could correct the celebration he started singing. We laughed and just sang along to get it over with. And the worst yet, as he finished up the food preparation, he had prepared for and served everyone EXCEPT ME - the celebrant. He looked confused, checked his notes (now for the 7th time - I counted because while he was checking notes he wasn't entertaining our group with the hibachi performance). So as my friends were completing their meals he left and finally returned with my protein portion. Grilled it uneventfully and served it to me - basically for me to promptly add it to my take-out box. In the meantime, there were 2 other hibachi grill groups with one fabulous chef serving both tables! He even had light-up utensils! So I gave this review 2 stars because everyone was pleasant, the food and drinks were tasty - but not special. My low score is based on the fact that we didn't have a real performance and I didn't get food until everyone was finished eating. Go only if you can get the experienced hibachi grill chef.

MUST READ!!!! Absolute BEST dining experience of my life!! Starting with walking in the front doors. Could not have had a more welcoming greeting! My wife and I made reservations for the hibachi room and were sat immediately upon arrival. Server came right over and took our drink order. Try their Mediterranean lemonade!! It was amazing!! Our server recommended the rocking napalm sushi roll, so we went for it. Only took 5 min to come. It was SO good!! We put our hibachi order in. I ordered the filet and chicken combo and my wife ordered the chicken and shrimp combo. The chef came out minutes later. Ask for chef Udah! He was SO entertaining and fun!! He sang and did so many tricks! The meal was absolutely delicious!! Our server kept checking up on us making sure we were doing ok...I mean great! Haha. After we finished eating our server brought us a desert menu and I couldn't help myself but order the chocolate soufflé...what can I say...I got a sweet tooth!! Lol. To sum this experience up, the atmosphere was amazing, the food was incredible...but the service was even better!!! BEST NIGHT EVER!!!

Really dig their sushi, hands down...probably about the best you're going to get in the area.

Great place. Great environment. Service was excellent. I got the ahi tuna salad. It was good but they put too much ranch dressing so beware. Lol. I would definitely come here again. Noticed a lot of vegan options so they have items for all dietary restrictions. I thought it was a little overpriced but that's just me.

The best Pad see ew I've had, though I haven't had nearly as much of it as Pad Thai..... and this is where they fail miserably. This is some of the most disappointing paid Thai I've had. The texture and ingredients seem perfect until you taste it. So bland. The pad Thai sauce recipe they use is soooo weak. It's a really nice restaurant, petals other dishes are great. The pad see ew is certainly worth it, but you cannot call yourself a Thai restaurant and have such weak Pad Thai.

My group and I really enjoyed the hibachi chef and the food when we ordered. It was easy to find right off I55, even in a snow storm with ample parking. The place is small but not "too small" - it was alot of fun and its because of the group and chef! I would definitely go back again and you should too. The.ONLY negative is that they didnt have much sake knowledge when asked, I think all wait staff despite the $$$ of menu should know every inch of the menu

The term Hibachi, which is in the name of the restaurant for gosh sakes, is misleading. "Hibachi" is when you grill your own food over wood or charcoal. What this place has, however is "teppanyaki" which is when a chef cooks your food on large flat top griddle while you're sitting there. That being said, the "hibachi" was pretty good. Entertaining show, large quantity of tasty food. A bit on the salty side but it's preferable to bland which is what many teppanyaki places veer towards. Ok, I was bad at catching the scrambled egg in my mouth... is it bad to find the egg in your shirt a few hours later?

I have been coming to this sushi place for quite some time now and I love it. I am not particularly that much into seafood but they offer so many different variations that there is something for anyone at this place. The staff is super friends, knowledgeable and willing to help you pick the right dish. The burr ridge roll and dragon on fire are delicious!! They also have ladies night once a month and hibachi specials which are delicious!

When I saw the "Sushi & Thai" sign out front, my first thought was Oh great, this place is about as Asian as a cheeseburger. Turns out, well, yes for the decor, no for the food. Read on. Parking is available in the nice large lot out front. The interior decor is classy, but a bit of a head-scratcher. "Pan-Asian" would be the best way to describe it. And by that I really mean "pseudo-Chinese". I recognized the Chinese Buddha images, and the name of this place means "passageway" in Chinese as well. The bar looked like it was designed as "Asian-themed" by Westerners. Trendy and neat, but not the most authentic. That's all I'm saying. The staff were all non-Asian, but the chefs by the sushi bar were all Asian. Not trying to be racist but generally this is a positive indicator. They spoke what I think was Thai or maybe Vietnamese. Definitely not Chinese, Japanese, or Korean. Having no idea what to order, it was time for the acid test - sushi and sashimi, thousands of kilometers from the ocean. I held my breath.. this place is surprisingly good! They actually did a pretty decent job in the authenticity department. The seafood was fresh (aka not fishy/slimy). The only thing is the that the portion was rather tiny for $27, but hey, you're kinda in the middle of the continent. Next time I will definitely be back if I'm ever shipped out here again. Recommended.

Please do not spend your money here. Horrible service from the waitress up to the owner. Came in for a family party of 24 on a Wednesday night. They did not have enough plates or forks. Let that sink in for a second... Not only was the service horrible, they screwed up our order and refused to remove the charge on our card. They also charge for the hot sauce (sriracha). Ordered 9 of those for our party having no clue of this nonsense. Complained to the active manager at the time who claimed to have talked to the owner and said they could not fix our bill besides removing the hot sauce charges. I asked to talk to the owner and the manager said that I can call in the next day. I told him to call her back and let her know we just spent $500 on a Wednesday night, still said no. If you are looking to have a big party, DO NOT give this place any of your money. There are plenty of other sushi/thai options around the area.

    1. Food is mediocre. I had the red curry with beef -the meat and curry sauce was very good. The dish was mostly bamboo shoots that come out of a can. There were a few pieces of bell pepper. The brown rice was undercooked and crunchy. 2. I liked the miso soup. It wasn't too salty, which is what I expected. 3. Bathrooms are not maintained well. 4. Best of all, the waitstaff lost our food that we requested to take home! What a disappointment. We do not plan on returning.

This is my "go to" sushi restaurant. Always good. Great variety. They make excellent trays for parties, etc. and they don't need a ton of time to get them together. And since my wife doesn't eat seafood, I can take her here for Thai food while I eat my sushi. All in, a solid contender.

The Burr Ridge location has become discriminating and racist. Particularly during this visit with 5 of my friends on Saturday night. Let me just say we have been here many times with average service and good food. On this particularly slow night with an almost empty restaurant our server was rude, deaf, and slow. We had to ask about the happy hour specials instead of being told about it. After waiting for quite a while to place our order, and when our food finally did arrive, the service ware was missing. Along with our rolls we were not offered soy sauce or given the extra spicy mayo we had specifically asked for. As we waited and our food was getting cold, it seemed we were troubling our server by asking for these items. Not to mention, multiple times we had to get up from our table to find him. Our water remained empty and at the end of our meal instead of being offered a dessert menu we were being pushed the check. Once again he seemed forced and troubled to have to bring our dessert and tea. Returning once again with the check right afterwards asking for us to take care of it right away. We felt unwanted and rushed, which made us decide to give a tip of 10% so that he may feel that we were not so happy with the service. Apparently he was not happy and unable to figure out that he was given a tip. He returned back to our table and loudly proclaimed in a statement "By the way, next time if you are not going to tip, let your server know, so that they can get you going!" We were shocked and appalled at this comment. Instead of reflecting upon his own actions and realizing how horrible his service was throughout the evening. He had the audacity to speak to us in this matter. Immediately we asked to speak to the manager. An Asian woman appeared from a back office and after hearing of the events of the night seemed cold and unmoved. Meanwhile the same server walked passed us with a smirk and zero remorse hearing of our complaints. Though she did apologize she offered no compensation to resolve the matter. So if you want to feel belittled, inferior, and unaccepted, feel free to go to this location of Dao. On a side note the newer location in Oakbrook has much better service.

My family and I came here for Mother's Day. It was not crowded or over booked. The ambiance was nice and comforting. I really enjoyed the service that was provided. We had the kung pao chicken and green curry. Both dishes were really good and tasty. The portions are quite larger than what we expected so we took the left overs home. You can share a dish if you are not too hungry. The creme brulee was amazing! I defintely suggest getting some if you dine at Dao Sushi.

We've been here twice now, both times my husband said his sushi was the best EVER. Both times I ordered the basil entree with tofu and it was AMAZE. Most recent visit we shared a creme brûlée and it was just okay. Our waiter seemed like he was having an off night. Previous visit our waitress was the best. Always lots of kids, but no biggie. I like the ambiance and that they serve martins. As soon as I'm done being preggo I'll be ordering a few AND bringing my kid because if you can't beat em, join em.

A fancy cute place for the family to enjoy Hibachi. The inside was well decorated and divided between sushi area and hibachi area. I liked it as no greasy grill smell floating in the lobby. The hallway to bathroom was really dark. My nose was almost touching the door when I tried to find out which one was for women. Kids loved the chef show from the burning flame to onion chuchu train to the heart shaped rice to the flying incoming scrambled eggs. My son loved his grilled chicken. He loved the fried rice too. My daughter's shrimp was cooked pretty good. She liked the steamed rive better. Both of them ate pretty well even finished the most part of the grilled veggies. Yep, the chef was doing better job on feeding them than me. I really loved my scallop which was big, fresh, tender, and grilled perfectly. The complimentary salad was really good too. I liked the salad dressing a lot. And both plum sauce and mustard sauce for grilled meat were better than Benihana's. I have to say the quality of meat was better too. The chef was very nice to pay lots attention to our kids. The waitress was professional and quick. It was a great dinner for 4 of us which cost around $100. I guess that is about the right price for a hibachi dinner around this area.

We had a great experience! This was my daughter's first time having a hibachi meal. We sat with 5 others and had a great time talking and sharing the experience. The food was excellent. It was cooked to perfection and the portions were huge! The gentleman cooking our food was not as entertaining as the other hibachi cookers. However he did have a good sense of humor. We stayed after our meal and listen to a band and cocktails were available at the bar. This is an overall great place to go. And it does not matter if you're young or old.

I recently has my birthday party with 17 guests. Some has been there before others were new. Everything is always fresh, and I love the atmosphere. (One little mess up with a fried rice) but only time in years of going there was an error. I can't wait to go back again!

Half off happy hour til 4 :) The happy hour rolls were really flavorful. We tried several of them and they were really delicious. I thought the mango tango roll was interesting. I wouldn't say I "loved" it, but it was interesting, more of a sweet and tangy roll. As with any sushi place, the prices are a bit high, but if you go at happy hour, you get a pretty good deal.

This restaurant has done a tremendous investment in getting better. The new hibachi steam tables offer quite a show to hungry customers with families. The main room is intimate and the food quality is superb. Also offers a sports bar section.

Good food BUT the management is terrible. Our group comes in here often since our office is nearby, and something always goes wrong. The managers are abrupt and unhelpful. Also, don't buy a Groupon for this place. The odds of them accepting it is slim. I've been trying to use this Groupon now for over a year and tried to meet their unreasonable expectations if it to no avail. Go somewhere else.

This place is fantastic! My wife and I went with friends who knew Dao well and ordered pretty much everything on the menu. They told us everything was good and I had some of EVERYTHING! Absolutely the best sushi I have ever tasted! I completely overindulged, as I could not stop eating, even after my stomach was churning out muffled "dude that's enough" tunes. I was so full that I hardly ate anything the following day. The atmosphere was also great, and the decor and architecture, very appropriate. Will definitely return, just need to eat less. I just need a really big doggie bag.

Similar to the other Chinese owned and operated sushi places in the area Dao is below average food with above average pricing thanks to the strategic location in Burridge. I don't think I ever came here without a Groupon, because for the price, its simply not worth it. Once awhile I'll stop in with a habachi groupon because habachi is pretty much the same everywhere. Don't get me wrong, I Love the atmosphere, and the convenience of proximity to my work, but if Dao could seriously make their food justify the price I'd dine there more often, sans the Groupon.

Though I may not be Yelp's foremost authority on Sushi, Thai, and Hibachi options, and though this was not my first choice for Valentine's Day, we went to Dao anyway. Which is just fine because I have always found that even if my comfort zone is tested I can almost always find something tasty to eat. This Dao location is not the newest of the Dao triad, but it's easy to get to. No problem getting in either. Should that be a concern? Hopefully not. They had a lobster special for 2 on board for the night of cupids and hearts. We opted out of that and headed for the menu. I did enjoy their calamari appetizer and my guy was pleased with the wasabi shrimp, so we were off to a great start. As seems to be the case lately, our server really took her time between courses, I mean really took her time. Dao has a pretty large selection of entrees: Thai options, Chef options, Dao classic options, Kitchen options, Japanese options, Hibachi options - it's an option world gone mad! I decided on the Veggie Ke Mao Noodles entree, and I'm so glad I did. Along with a spicy and very crisp salad, as well as miso soup, the flavors of tomato, basil, broccoli, and shallots were great and the noodles were classic, flat noodles. Really good. My opponent in love selected a hot and spicy Thai entree of chicken and veggies on a green curry sauce. I expected to see steam come out of his ears. But he had no complaints on the seasonings, coupled with coconut milk and peppers. His meal came with brown rice. Is a Valentine's Day complete without dessert? Heck, no! We chose the green tea ice cream. Really nice, kind of a low key flavor after all the heat. As a whole, we had a nice time and I should say that I was really impressed by the presentation of each course. Prices were all over the map here; what you might expect as high end was cheaper. Go figure. If we try Dao again, it will probably be their Oakbrook location, for comparative purposes. But as a whole, it was A-OK.

This is probably more of a 2.5 star review. Went for lunch today, with my $30 groupon. They don't open until noon, which is strange - why not 11:30? Anyway, I was probably the first one here. I stood in the entrance, waiting to be seated....and waiting...and waiting. Finally, someone came and sat me. I ordered the crab rangoon, a dragon roll, and a rainbow roll. The crab rangood is probably the best I've ever had - so different and wonderful. The 2 rolls were ok, nothing outstanding. Service was not great. I was sitting about 8 feet from the sushi bars, watching them make the sushi....and seeing my sushi sit up there, plated, for about 15 minutes. It wasn't busy enough for this to happen - kind of a turn off. I'd go across the street to Wok 'n Fire for good food and service.

Went to Dao while staying in Burr Ridge for business. Very nice decor and atmosphere, several of my co-workers had sushi that looked great, I had the Mongolian Beef, which was tender and sweet with the perfect amount of heat. I probably could have stopped eating halfway through but it tasted so good I couldn't stop shoveling it into my mouth. The chopsticks definitely got a workout. Would definitely go back.

Being big sushi fans, my girlfriend and I like to try as many different sushi places in the area and this place was the worst by far. When we first walked in, I thought the dimly lit dining area with the colorful bar provided a nice atmosphere. Then they seated us in the back of the restaurant which had a feeling more akin to a family diner mixed with a sports bar. Our service was mediocre at best. We ordered drinks first - a sake flight which was tasty but overpriced. I requested to keep the drink menu so we could try new things but it was taken away after we ordered our sushi, at which point we sat without drinks for 15 minutes until the sushi came. Finally got a drink menu 5 minutes later and then waited again for more sake. The waitress seemed surprised that we were drinking for some reason. We mostly ordered some of the cheaper sake, which was good, but there were some bottles priced at $50 or more. Finally, the sushi itself was a bit more pricey than the other places we've tried, and significantly less delicious. Nothing about any of the sushi that we tried really got my attention. This is a weird complaint probably, but the wasabi didn't seem to be nearly potent enough, like it was cut with something. They apparently have Thai food and tempura on the menu, but we didn't try it so I can't comment on the quality. Overall, I would rate my experience here as poor, especially in comparison to other sushi restaurants in the area. If you want an authentic experience with great food and service, check out Yokohama in Westmont. If you want reasonably priced sushi with a delivery service, try Woow in La Grange. Sushi Thaime in Oak Lawn is also a great restaurant in a somewhat surprising location. Like Dao, they offer a groupon that will save you some money.

Since I am back on the road again I decided to review places I am eating at, tonight was sushi, Dao did not disappoint and I just had sushi in SF. The lobster roll was different , lobster, apple in rice paper, it was very tasty and a nice way to start, since I was alone I say at the sushi bar, my waiter was prompt , recommended a new sushi special and was quick to bring me water. The chef then provided me with a free tuna app, a little spice kick in a sauce, it should go on the menu. The rest of my meal was single orders of sushi, all fresh and well prepared. This is a place I would go to again if I ever find myself back here. The staff was well knowledgeable in their menu, the hostess was happy and cheerful and everyone eating seemed to be enjoying their meals.

The Hot and Sour Soup is amazing - one of the hottest I have ever tasted. The premium sushi can be a bit pricey, but its worth it. Also you can find plenty of coupons out there for Dao. My favorite roll is the NAPALM roll, but you have to ask the server - its an off the menu item. Service isn't great but the sushi is top notch. Dao is a go to restaurant for sushi.

Went here for lunch. My server Desto was friendly and willing to go out of his way to make sure I had a great lunch. I got the 2 roll lunch combo with soup and salad for $10. You could get 3 rolls off the list for $12. The atmosphere was nice. I would imagine it would make a great date night out. They also had outside seating.

I have eaten at Dao twice in the last month. We had sushi which was good, non traditional but fun. Service was slow, and very unrefined, I felt like I was conversing with someone who only spoke text and could barely take my order, frustrating to ask any menu questions. The second meal was with my husband, this time we ordered off the Thai menu, big mistake! The Szechuan shrimp were ok, very spicy as the tomato sauce had separated at the pass waiting for our server, yes service was even slower than the first meal. All the spice sat on top of the shrimp and the tasty tomato sauce was at the bottom of the bowl. It wasn't a dish you could stir either. So here is the fun part, I mentioned this to our waiter who replied and I am not kidding, " um like I think it's not hot, like it is more like medium hotness, yeah like medium, so it is only medium hotness". My husband had the miso red snapper. The sauce was great, veggies great, the fish overcooked to the point that it was dry. It was placed on top of a mound of vegetables and the little tiny fillet broke into pieces of dry fish flakes ( it was paper thin and about 3 inches long). I question whether it was really snapper, certainly not worth the price. Average of 2 stars based on no stars for lazy immature servers and the good sauce and sushi. We will not return, such a shame.

We only eat the sushi, so this is for the sushi. My 22 yr olds favorite place in burr ridge. Many different very fresh- maki rolls. Some are really heavy and have cooked fish- I am not a fan of that, but my guest that don't like sushi or are afraid of it love them. Something for everyone. It is pricier than most sushi places, but the quality reflects it. If you like cheaper sushi, go to wok n fire- We usually bring a coupon and eat too much. Ask the staff what to get and be honest about what you like. Raw or cooked, heavy or light? Most people say they like sushi and they mean a California roll. Very dark inside, outdoor patio.

One of my favorite sushi/hibachi spots hands down !!!!!!! The one thing that confuses me is when I order take out, I feel as if no one either wants to take the order, or if there isn't a system as to how it works.

I was in the mood for Asian cuisine, so a $15/$30 Groupon motivated to try out this restaurant, located in an upscale suburb of Chicago (Burr Ridge). Because I had not been there before, and had no idea how busy they might be, I placed a reservation through OpenTable. The interior was sizable for a strip-mall location: a lengthy liquor bar, and an even larger Sushi/Sashimi bar - with four people behind the latter, all apparently busy preparing for the current meal. I did not see anything indicating that there were tabletop or hibachi cooking stations - puzzling, since hibachi appears in the restaurants name. Upon arrival, I was promptly greeted and seated. I was presented two menus; one for food and the other for "Libations". As soon as I presented my Groupon (per instructions), the waiter quickly and politely pointed out the parts of the menu that were excluded from that offer. In the mood for a beer, I perused the libations menu, and found that they offered three Japanese beers - one of which was on tap (draught). While it appeared that someone seemed to have put a lot of thought into constructing the beverage menu, there were indications that math might not have been high on their list of aptitudes. Case in point: Sapporo on tap at $6 for a 16 ounce glass, but $8 for a 20 ounce glass. Think about it... why would I want to pay more per ounce for the larger glass? And, what justified that kind of a price? That provoked me to take a look at their wine list, which I found to be so overpriced that I would forego any temptation to try one instead of the beer. I ordered an appetizer and an entree, searching for both value and variety. I wasn't even half way through with my appetizer, when the waiter brought the entree to the table. So, by the time I had finished the former, the latter was less than as hot as I would have liked. Also, there were absolutely no condiments on the table - no soy, salt, pepper, or anything else. I had to ask, since the waiter failed to offer anything. In conclusion, the portion sizes were good, food quality was better than average, the service was inconsistent though relatively attentive, but none of those justified the inappropriately high prices for a mall location at lunch time. Even with another Groupon, I probably wouldn't go back.

Went there to try out the Hibachi with a groupon we had. They ask you to make a reservation for hibachi, which we did (was a interesting experience in itself, we kept calling to make a reservation but the call would be forwarded to a different number, a 708 area code, which didn't make any sense. We thought we had the wrong number. We were calling when they were closed for a lunch change i assume, it was weird they didn't have a local voicemail) Anyways we both ordered hibachi. Food was of good quality, better then a few of the other hibachi places we have tried that are local. The place was pretty empty when we wen there but most likely due to a off hour during the week. The show from the chef was different then most of the ones i have seen. We don't go for the show at this point, they are all the same, but his was a bit different and nice to see some changes to the same throwing the egg into the hat. Food was great and we were surprised by the random "service" charges that some other local hibachi places throw on, especially when you have a groupon. We enjoyed the visit and the food, will try again.

3.5 stars. Came here for Hibachi with a groupon. However, the term "hibachi" is a little misleading, as it's actually teppanyaki. Hibachi means it's cooked on a grill, and hibachi is the big iron flat top that Dao has. Anyway, the back room where they keep the teppanyaki tables was empty, so it was a nice and quiet. The chairs are too high, which is frustrating if you're of average height and can't touch your feet to the floor. Service was a little slow in the beginning, but after that, we were rolling. The miso soup and salad that come with are okay, but you don't come here for that. The shrimp appetizer is just two pieces of shrimp, but tasty, and cooked with the entrees. The fried rice was really good, and we liked the show the cook did. The onion volcano with flame and sparks coming out was original. He also tossed some pieces of egg at our mouths, and some of us were able to catch it! Entertaining, to say the least. The fried rice was actually really good, more flavorful than Benihana for sure. For our entrees, my party ordered strip steak, lobster, and scallops. Every meat was cooked properly, and tasted good. The lobster had a little too much sauce on it though, making it a little on the salty side. I prefer this to under-seasoned though. The steak, cooked to medium rare, was juicy and flavorful. Fresh veggies were good and again, well-seasoned. The entrees are a bit pricey, but they give you a LOT of food. Seriously, I can't believe the amount of rice my family consumed, and there was enough meat. I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food. It was a much better experience than Benihana, where I remember the food being bland. I was happy with my meal, and left very full (no room for dessert)! All in, I'd say my experience was 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. I would come back for "Hibachi" if given the chance.

The food here was very flavorless and the show was the only thing that I enjoyed here. The chef was a very friendly person and but wasn't the best at tricks. I used a Groupon when I came here so it was worth trying but I think you can find much better Hibachi food somewhere else.

Not sure how I feel about this place. We bought a living social deal which was for their company and they have multiple locations. But we weren't able to use it because it didn't say their location... Thought that was weird, but luckily groupon nearby had another deal for them so we just bought it. The manager didn't seem too happy with that but oh well... after all, they weren't cheap. We all decided to do the hibachi show. The show was nice, our chef was nice even though he had a couple oppsie's. Luckily none of those accidents involved knives. The food was pretty good, but nothing spectacular. For some reason, I don't feel inclined to hurry back here, but I plan to try their sister-store Sushi Train some time soon.

This review is for the Burr Ridge location. Usually I avoid the "fusion" Chinese/ sushi/ Thai restaurants, but the birthday girl wanted hibachi and satay, so this was one of the few options in the area. Our group of 10 was seated at a hibachi table, which was probably meant for 8. It was a little cozy. Otherwise, we had the hibachi section to ourselves. I ordered pad see ew, which was okay. (I'm spoiled by the great Thai food in Lincoln Square and South Loop.) Sushi was expensive and about average in quality compared to some other local options. The hibachi chef was good I suppose, but I really don't ever go to hibachi so I'm not much of a critic. He had a funny trick that made to whole table laugh, besides the other somewhat campy moves like flipping bites of food for people to catch in their mouths. My dog catches things a lot better than I do.

I waited to write this review until the day after I ate at the restaurant. I wanted to make sure I did not write in anger. First, I will address the food. We ate hibachi only. I ordered shrimp and my wife ordered steak and shrimp. The steak was tough and chewy. The shrimp and the fried rice lacked flavor. The shrimp were also slightly under cooked. There were four of us at our table and everyone agreed we were not served enough fried rice. I would rate Dao's hibachi as the McDonalds of hibachi. Bland food is certainly a big problem for a restaurant, but that's not what upset me the most. I purchased a Groupon 3 days prior to our visit. We were going to eat there on a Wednesday. Wednesday happens to be a Special discount day for certain Hibachi dishes. I called the restaurant to make sure they served a full hibachi menu on Wednesday. They do. I asked if I could use my Groupon on the full priced menu. They said yes. My wife and I each ordered a glass of wine. As mentioned earlier, my wife ordered a full priced steak and shrimp combo and I ordered a shrimp special. I also upgraded to fried rice for $2. Yes fried rice is an upgrade at least on the Wednesday special. Our bill came to $69 and change. I handed the waiter the $30 Groupon and he told me he could not accept it because I had ordered a special. I explained that I had called and was assured that I could use it on the full priced menu items. He said we both had to order full priced menu items. He then said he could split the bill and take it off of my wife's bill. I said that would be fine. He returned to the table and said his manager would not let him split the bill and I could not use my Groupon tonight for the dinner we had. While he was checking with his manager we reviewed our bill and discovered we had been overcharged for the wine my wife ordered by $2. There order system is computerized so I assume everyone was overcharged that night. This is the first really bad review I have ever written. I took this much time to write the review because I don't want anyone else to waste an evening eating sub par food at a restaurant with such horrible customer service.

Good for you, opening a location in Oak Brook. Lets not forget where you came from, ahem, Sushi Train... This is Burr Ridge, not downtown Chicago or New York. Don't get too full of yourselves just yet, ok? I've been coming here since, literally, the day it opened. Very cool atmosphere, modern deco, great sushi. For the price vs freshness, it works. Though I haven't had any of the Thai, and only done the hibachi once, I've heard great things about all Asian parts of this restaurant. As for the food here, absolute 5-stars. This weekend tho, which did prompt me to make a post here, I was a little appalled at my initial treatment...even before we were seated. I'm no one special, and definitely don't deserve any special treatment; but apparently did commit the horrible crime of not making a reservation. Shame on me. Walking into a nearly empty restaurant, I assumed we were safe. It was 5:30 on a Saturday, not 7:30... Not to mention, I've never needed or made a reservation here in the past. But no, today it was seemingly unacceptable... The hostess quickly gasped 'no reservation!' and another hostess came running over. She also couldn't believe it... 'no reservation?!'. Then, after some hush-hush whispering we were directed to a table. Finally seated and settled, what's that we noticed? At least 15-20 EMPTY tables. Throughout our entire dinner the restaurant was never filled, nor was it when we left. Why did we 'need' a reservation so bad? Please Dao, loosen up.

Well this visit was a speedy improvement! We were able to enjoy dinner and wine outside on the patio. Dinner was tasty and the service was fine.

I came for dinner with my dad and we were the only ones there for most of the night...it was really quiet. I ordered a few pieces of sushi and some rolls and they were OK. I think that the more sushi I try, the more I realize what's great and was is just good. The presentation for the Rainbow Roll was beautiful with the flowers in it. This place is in the just good category - but they get EXTRA points for the White Sox roll. See the pic!

I'll start out with the fact that this would be a 5 star if not for the slow service - not busy but inexplicably slow. The house maki they offer is innovative in the presentation and quite good, although a lot of them have a fried aspect - either whole fried or tempura shrimp inside. The habachi is superb, along with the show - the cook we had was very entertaining. I'll continue to visit.

I found it interesting that so many people complain about the service. I found the service excellent. The Food, however, was outstanding. We had two sushi rolls, they were well built (didn't fall apart when you went to eat them), and melted in your mouth. Wonderful! We also had six sashimi, and again the seafood was very fresh and melt in your mouth good. Our server was warm and attentive. The restaurant is dark, we went at 6:45 and it's winter here. The restaurant was quiet in the sushi/thai area. We did not go into the hibachi area. We'd definitely recommend this place to anyone for a lovely night out.

This little place in Burr Ridge is a good place to get your sushi fix outside of the city. It's very hard to find a good sushi place outside of the city sometimes. Not saying that sushi bars don't exist in the 'burbs but that doesn't make them automatic winners either. Dao is probably one of these pretty good places that will be able to satisfy your wildest sushi desires. Now, they say that first impressions can dictate how you percieve things...well I was very worried when my friend drove me into a strip mall and said that we were going to have sushi here. I was already preparing for the worst and that quickly turned around once we stepped inside. First thing that surprised me was how big the place actually was. It had a very relaxed ambiance that I enjoyed with great service. To be quite honest, I really don't remember exactly what was ordered because we picked so many things and I didn't even get to pick anything off the menu! I do however, remember that we had an app of King Crab Rangoon and an assortment of sashimi and maki rolls. The only thing that I'm sure about is that I enjoyed them all very much! They also make a variety of martinis that are pretty good as well (with the exception of a green one that I believe was called "Green Frog"). Again, I can't claim that this is the best sushi place in the 'burbs, since I haven't been to many, but it sure is decent enough to try out if you are in the area so Check It Out! -Papa Bear

Two Sunday night visits have left us with a very good impression. Seating has yet to be a problem, and the hostesses have always been pleasant. From beginning to end, waiter service has been always polite. Do have a tendency to fall behind when the tables start getting filled. Beer menu has the usuals, domestics and Asian, Sapporo, etc. Have yet to have a bad meal here. The sushi and sashimi rolls have always been well prepared, and generously sized. Our favorites our the Sweet Potato and Volcano rolls. A bowl of fried rice (vegetable) is a must, plenty for three and absolutely exquisite. The best we've ever had. Keep a good eye on your tab, as the bill can pile up quickly between food and drinks. Definitely check their daily specials if bringing a bigger crowd, and plan accordingly to maximize your spending. Drink and roll specials are a daily occurrence. Save room for dessert, as the "Pyramid" is packed with chocolatey goodness, and an instant family favorite. Check for Groupon or restaurant.com vouchers before heading in. Definitely worth a visit, just don't forget your wallet!

If I had reviewed after my first stop here it may not have been so good. But unlike my normal routine I went back on the second night. I was out of town with limited choices after all! Three of us went on both visits. Night one we had a dizzy waitress that tells me my soup will come after my pad thai so I order an app as well. The app comes, the soup comes and immediately the pad thai comes. What the hell is wrong with wait staff who do not know how to space your order? Also, I asked for it really spicy hot and it wasn't at all. The owner offered a free ice cream desert for my pains. A pain it was and I usually would not have gone back. Night two, I was able to have some Saki and it may have improved the whole meal! I ordered a sushi app this time (learn my lesson) and then curry for the meal. I didn't bother asking for it to be extra spicy this time. The waitress, who was tall with a slavic accent was fantastic! She was so great it made the meal. There at the right times, bringing things when they should come to the table and spacing the meal!!!!!! What do you have a waitress for if they don't space your meal? You could just eat at a buffet then right? Night two was much improved, so I'd have to admit I would return. We had a bunch of sushi at the table on night two and my friends thought it was great. I really liked the curry and my other friend had a japanese bowl meal. All in all I think everyone found it all to be satisfactory to return. Just know you may get a great waitress or a dizzy one.

Really yummy!! At Dao, you get larger servings than at other places-such as Kona Grill. Will definitely be coming back!

Awesome service and great food. We have gone here on numerous occasions. We love the Crab Rangoon. It was good the first time we had it. We love the everything here including the Volcano Roll, White Sox roll, and Hot Sake roll. They have a chocolate dessert which is awesome.

Our host took us to this place for sushi and claimed it was the best ever. Of course I've heard that from just about everyone, everywhere...and it's never true. Okay, I stand corrected. The quality of the fish combined with the originality of the rolls got my attention. Then I discovered amazing sauces and clever things like cilantro in a roll, that made them simply delicious. Order the roll that features SuperWhite Tuna and you'll be in sushi heaven! I'd fly back from Austin, Texas anytime to eat at this place again.

Hard to find as it's hidden in a strip mall (imagine . . . .a strip mall in the burbs!) but look for the red lanterns hanging from the overhang and you will find yourself at Dao Sushi. This new addition to the Burr Ridge area has only been open for a few months yet pulled off our evening perfectly. My friend loves sake and Dao has a series of sake flights that you can order. We went with the manager's suggestions on the first go around and found just the perfect accompaniment to our meal. As an aside- I love the little sake holder that the flights come in- reminded me of chemistry class- each taste of sake suspended in a metal frame. They have a wide selection of rolls, nigiri and sashimi. We ordered several regular rolls and a couple of their signature rolls. The two that stood out to me were the red dragon roll and the rainbow roll, but all were good. The sashimi was also excellent- so fresh. Both came artfully arranged on a platter that made it a feast for the eyes as well. If you go early- they have a $3 menu and a $5 menu that goes until 6:30 M- F (and 12:30 -3 on Sat and Sun) with many of the most popular standard rolls on these menus. And every night of the week there is a drink special- it was $4 large Sapporo beers on the night we were there. Service was spot on, although there was a comical moment when the server told us he wasn't really that familiar with sushi himself and ran to get the manager. That's all right- the place is new and people are learning. He did the right thing and I bet he'll know the answer the next time it's asked! The ambiance is comfortable- a nice mix of booths and those private tables along the wall where you can sit on the floor and test your balancing skills of getting the food to your mouth! Parking is a cinch as there is a private lot with plenty of room. Next time you find yourself out in this "neck of the woods", and are "jonesing" for some sushi- give Dao Sushi a try. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I know I was.

I only ate here once and want to try it again. I had the shashimi platter that was very good but over done with the decorations. This reflects my overall observation about this place: They do the main things well but then take it over the top by trying to do too much. For example, they're a sushi and Thai and Benihanna-type place all together. Any one of them would be enough for me. Focus people!

I usually carry out from here rather than dine in. I live less than 5 minutes from this location so it's convenient for when I want to eat quality sushi without having to drive into the city. I've dined here once and the service was okay, nothing to brag about. But when I carry out, the rolls are always fresh and the hostess is always kind. It's my go to for a night in and I haven't been disappointed yet.

Finally! A solid sushi restaurant that is in Burr Ridge and doesn't require a trek out to Yokohama. The restaurant is only a month or so old and they wasted no money on creating a relaxing ambiance. Don't laugh - I LOVE all the light shades and architectural details which transformed this strip mall location into a beautiful modern Asian restaurant. I had a hankering for seafood and was happy to note that the "Sushi & Thai Coming Soon" restaurant was finally open! I had the edaname, tom yum shrimp soup, and two signature sushi rolls. The soup was your standard Thai Tom Yum soup, served in a cute lion's head bowl. Great for presentation, kind of difficult to slurp up with a large spoon. And now... onto the sushi! Upon discussion with my waiter, Drew, I decided on the Christmas roll and Sunshine roll. The Christmas roll was made of spicy crabmeat, super white tuna, tuna, and avocado. While the flavor profiles were good, the spicy crabmeat may have been overmixed, resulting in a dense filling. This made the sushi chewy, which I'm not a fan of. When I told Drew, he seemed very surprised, so maybe it was an off night? The Sunshine roll was made of salmon, orange, crabmeat, avocado and cucumber. I was very skeptical of the salmon/orange mix, but Drew assured me the flavors complemented each other. And he was dead on! The sunshine roll was fabulous - beautifully served, melt-in-your-mouth sushi that allowed you to relish in all the flavors. It was hands down, the best sushi roll I've had in the Western suburbs. I enjoyed a few glasses of sake with my meal. I started off with "Summer Snow" Kamoizumi Nigori Ginjo, cold, unfiltered sake, with a smooth, creamy flavor. It was one of the better nigori sakes I've had in a long time. I ended with, I think, the Moonstone Coconut Lemongrass Sake. It was another cold, unfiltered sake, with a strong coconut perfume and a tad on the sweet side. It was creamy with a kick that was a nice dessert drink. Overall, this restaurant has a lot of potential. I'm sad that this restaurant finally opened on my last trip to Burr Ridge, but there's still a few more opportunities to try other dishes before I leave. Given the nearby competition of quality food at Capri and Cooper's Hawk, I think Dao will do well, as it is the only tasty Asian fusion restaurant in the area.

i had no idea this place was here. i go to brookhaven enough and lifetime all the time and had no idea there were nice restaurants across the street. anyways, this is a great place to try different kinds of sushi. i'm always looking for inventive creations. and this place definitely had some. we had to wait for a table as we did not have resrvations. we ended up sitting at one of the high tables, which was fine. while waiting at the bar, i ordered a hawaii martini. absolutely delicious. mmmm, i'm in a good mood now. we ordered a dinamine, which is assorted fish, scallop, fish egg with special sauce baked in a shell. it comes out flaming. it was pricey at $15, but definitely worth it. we enjoyed everything we ordered: crispy eel roll, mexical roll (typical), dragon on fire was pretty inventive, Shrimp tempura, salmon, super white tuna, tobiko, spicy mayo and eel sauce. and lastly, we ordered the sushi pizza on a scallion pancake. this one was disappointing. as the pancake was not hot, nor crispy. and the vegetables in between was distracting. there was also not enough scallion flavor to the pancake. it was disappointing as it could have been so much better. overall, i would defintiely go back especially for their happy hour.

I was on the verge of going to a 1-star, but the decent service saved them. I am just beyond annoyed, insulted and borderline sad about this place. My friends love it (not big sushi people) and I am always up for trying new sushi places. However, it is NOT OKAY to not have shitake on your menu! What in sam's hill would possess a sushi restaurant to not carry their staple mushroom??? And, about 95% of their rolls are either salmon or tuna. I can understand, it's a suburb, you are feeding that clientele that probably rarely ventures outside of a california roll. And that's another thing! So much "crabmeat". WTF? Whatever we did order (it's really not worth trying to figure out which rolls at this point), it was like "so what?" upon eating it. Again, considering it's a suburb, I can understand, not many options. So why not push the envelope a little and carry some other fish and more daring rolls? Ugh, I am getting upset and even more disappointed thinking about it. The suburban excuse only goes so far because I had much better rolls at G-In sushi in Orland. Disappointing and just awful. If I ever lived out there (heaven forbid), I honestly would hitchhike my way into Chicago to trip on one of the crack's in the sidewalk and fall into a better sushi place.
